UPDATE – Muscles hits back and threatens to quit the music business!
The response to yesterday’s story regarding Muscles – apparently – being dropped from the lineup for Modular’s 10th birthday festival tour Nevereverland was incredulous to say the least.
The one-man band, who shot to stardom in 2007 off the back of his debut album Guns, Babes & Lemonade, certainly wasn’t looking to win himself any new fans with the rather derisive outburst, in which he attacked his label and fellow artists Cut Copy and The Presets in a rather sarcastic tone. Now, not surprisingly, Modular have responded with their own summary of the situation.
“Muscles is signed to Modular Recordings and his services are still required under that agreement,” the label said in a statement. “He was offered a spot at Nevereverland which still stands and whether he chooses to play or not is his decision. Obviously we would like him to be part of our 10 year celebrations and hope he turns up to perform.”
Whether Muscles fronts at the festival this month is anyone’s guess, but surely adding fuel to the fires of speculation is his wikipedia page, which currently ends with a rather contentious line. “There is a worldwide major label bidding war on who will be releasing the follow-up [to Guns, Babes & Lemonade ], after Modular amicably parted ways with Muscles in November 2008.”

Its a shame people arnt backing modular they are a awesome label, i remember there christmas party a few years back with all there new comers such as Cut copy, the Presets,Van She and Wolfmother possably the best artists to come out of syd and melb now all you tools wanna write them off because there sucsessfull,fuck muscles and all 3 of his fans

How the fuk can modular have there 10th anniversary without 'The Avalanches"? My suggestion drop muscles and the ticket prices, get the Avalanches back together. I personally would go 2 see the avalanches drop a colossal dj set. Cause after all according to triple j there handin there new record over modular on Dec 25th. Mind u that has been said many times before.

benis totally agree...some of the best acts to come of syd/mel. but my point is that they actually do play at like every festival....i've seen the cutters 3 time and presets just as many....u can only hear them so many times.... wats most dissappointing is modular could get almost any1 and they use the same acts we can c every week.

i like muscles. sure his voice is not great but for a dude to run EVERYTHING on his own is pretty impressive. just recently i think he has come across as a bit of an up himself wanker but australia is all about cutting down the tall poppies. so what if he's proud of himself and his music? he has a f***ing right to be if he's done everything for himself. if he isn't going to be proud of it in the first place then how is anyone else going to? as for modular "dropping" him, it's unfair to exclude him just because he's opinionated. modular are back tracking with their statement "he was offered a spot at nevereveland which still stands" - not according to muscles it isn't. "My record label calls my mobile phone last week and says, ‘We’re downsizing and can’t afford to have ‘Muscles’ on our Nevereverland 2008 lineup anymore" - who would make that stuff up? maybe it is just a publicity stunt. modular shouldn't blame muscles for the lack of ticket sales to a modular run event. there are other artists on the label. love the presets but they are, along with cut copy, festival whores and have been for the past 2 years. i'm sorry but nothing is going to top daft punk!!
