The gap between the February and November Frantic boat parties always seems way too long for me. Being a hardcore Frantic fan I have frequented this event on many occasions over the past few years, and it’s safe to say that I’m always left chomping at the bit each and every time, eager for the next instalment.

The end of last week had me dusting off my dancing shoes and reclaiming my party mojo – not that it ever left mind you, but, erm, anyhoo… Coupled with a few lunges and star jumps (there’s a lot of bouncing to be done on this boat), I was ready for some hard dance action.

Come Saturday morning the anticipation and excitement building, I had a light breakfast and my mates and I moseyed to the Star City Casino wharf to regroup with our many friends and board the Lady Rose. Following a week of miserable English-esque weather full of greyness, misery and puddles, it was most refreshing to find that the sun had popped his hat on and had come out to add a little shine to our day on the harbour. What a champion.

Among the party people were many old faces and plenty new, so after what seemed like an eternity of ‘hellos’ and ‘how ya doings’, I bought myself a refreshing beverage and got to work on the dance floor, busting shapes that would have made the contenders of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ bursting at the seams with jealousy. OK, maybe an exaggeration. But only a slight one.

Chimpy was first up in the hard dance room and got things pumping. Admittedly I missed most of his set (see above re. ‘hellos and how you doings’) however he set the pace nicely with a sound mixture of hard trance tunes. Squirrel was next up on the decks pumping out some old favourites, one that features in my personal top 10 Music is Moving, which always gets the hard dance fans revved up. Making my way upstairs for a bit there was a good crowd shaking their asses to Mickey G and Funkazan’s groovy tunes, so I had a wee boogie then spent more time perusing the boat talking to people.

After some time spent enjoying the sunshine and chatting to friends up on the top deck, I ventured back downstairs and bounded into the harder room to be welcomed by crowd pleaser Micky D and finally Steve Hill, who both pumped out a host of favourites. Not a lot of new material however I enjoyed both sets and kicked off my thongs to bounce around with everyone. I spent some more time upstairs where a solid crowd had formed to hear the gorgeous Tish Tash rock the place with her funky beats, always a winner in my book, then finished off in the hard room while we docked and everyone made their way onto the jetty.

As with most Frantic parties my day always consists of lots of dancing, plenty of socialising, quite a fair bit of drinking, amalgamating to form a fun-packed, superbly exciting day out on our beautiful Sydney Harbour. In my opinion this party pulls one of the best crowds witnessed in Sydney, the reason being that every single person is there to have a laugh and any pretentiousness is well and truly left at the door.

I haven’t experienced one mediocre party and yes, you will hear all the older hard tunes but this is music that is well known and loved and I suppose at the end of the day, Frantic to me is all about sentiment. I guess that is why it’s called the E-Motion boat party!
